Split is the capital of Split-Dalmatia County and the second largest city in Croatia. The city is located in one of the sunniest parts of the Mediterranean with approx. 2700 hours of sunshine a year. The city is proud of its long heritage of more than 1700 years old, which was recognized by UNESCO’s world heritage list that included Diocletian's Palace, and the historic city of Split built around the palace in 1979.
Split developed from a transit city to the Dalmatian islands into a tourist center. The city is an important economic, tourist, cultural and university center of this part of the Adriatic.
